Monetising Let’s Play Videos

For those who produce let’s play content for Youtube, one of the most difficult moments after starting is what to do when Youtube offers to allow you to join in revenue sharing for advertising.

The problem is for us let’s players is that the form to fill out specifically asks if you use video game content, which unless you are a board game let’s player probably applies to you.

I thought I would use my site to share my method for applying my videos to ad-sharing so I can maybe be helpful to some other let’s players.

When Uploading videos, when you have monetisation enabled means that you will have the additional ‘Claim options’ menu on the upload screen. Simply answer all 5 of the question ticking yes for ‘Do you have video game content’.

Then in the box I would suggest some varient of the following

This video contains footage of <GAME NAME> along with a commentary (Produced by/Created By/Made By) myself with the purpose of of providing a walkthrough of the game and a review of the game, as allowed under fair use.

Now under fair use you are allowed to use gameplay footage for review purposes..luckily during let’s plays you are commenting on the game such as what the graphics, problems you occur, analysing difficulty, laughing at unbelievable character or ctriquing whatever may be annoying you at the time and therefore reviewing the game.

I have used this note for all my video within my Skyrim Series..which is on my channel that I hope you check out after (hint hint)

If you have any other questions, the best place to contact me is through Youtube mail or twitter (@Chris_DodgaM) and of course if you really want to show appreciation, check out the Support page for madgodmachinations.

Hope this has helped
